The 2000 presidential election exposed some dire weaknesses in the United States electoral system. Widespread corruption, errors, and systematic disenfranchisement led to the election of Bush, who did not even win a plurality of the popular vote. While America frequently preaches about democracy abroad and sends election observers to Haiti, Indonesia and elsewhere, its time for non-Americans to observe US elections and hold them to the same standards of fairness.
Global Exchange is soliciting non-Americans to volunteer as election observers for the upcoming presidential election on November 2. To apply to be an election monitor, send a cover letter, a CV, and three letters of recommendation to firstname.lastname@example.org or via fax to: Attn Fair Elections, 01-415-255-7498.
